Safety routines
Class size
Adult classes take up to 16 or 20 people, sparring up to 12 and the teens' class up to 12.
Contact level
Contact is light unless a coach tells a pair otherwise, and a partner who taps or says stop is released at once.
A trainer on the floor
Every class has a trainer on the floor, and the teens' class always has one more adult in the building.
Floor rules
Clean gear, short nails, no jewelry and no shoes on the mat.
Sample details.
Family policies
For parents of teens and for adults who bring a friend to watch.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
What to wear and bring
A plain t-shirt or rash guard and shorts without pockets. Hair tied back, no jewelry, no shoes on the mat. Bring water and a towel. We lend gloves and shin guards for your first classes.
Watching a class
Parents and friends are welcome to watch from the bench by the front desk. Please ask the coach first, stay off the mat and keep phones on silent. During sparring we ask watchers to stay quiet so partners can hear the coach.
When to stay home
Please stay home with a fever, a stomach illness or a skin rash that could spread, and come back when you feel well. Cover cuts and tell the coach about any injury before class.
Teens' drop-off and pickup
The teens' class ends on the hour. A teen may leave on their own only when a parent or guardian has told the front desk in writing; otherwise they wait inside for a named adult, and we ask for ID from anyone we don't know.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close on major holidays and post any other closure, including for weather, on this site, at the front desk and by text to members.
Leaving the program
Memberships are month to month and end with 30 days' notice in writing. The full terms are on the membership page.
Phones in class
Phones stay in your bag and on silent. Filming in class is only with the coach's say-so and never of someone who hasn't agreed.
Questions about a policy?
Ask the front desk, or bring it to your first class.
