FAQ
Questions before you start
How old do I have to be?
Adult classes are for ages 18 and up, and the teens' class is for ages 13 to 17. We don't have classes for younger children.
Can I watch a class first?
Yes. Ask the front desk, then sit on the bench beside it; watchers stay off the mat and keep phones on silent.
What do I wear to the first class?
A plain t-shirt or rash guard and shorts without pockets, no jewelry and no shoes on the mat. Bring water and a towel. We lend gloves and shin guards for your first classes.
What is a class like?
A warm-up, rounds of pad work or bag work with a coach, a technique you drill with a partner, a short conditioning block and a cool-down. Every class is built so a beginner and a regular can work side by side.
Do I need to be fit or flexible?
No. All fitness levels start here, and the coach scales each round to you. A class is a workout that is also a class.
How does sparring start, and what does contact level mean?
Sparring starts as technical sparring at light contact, in gloves and shin guards, with a coach choosing partners. Light contact means touching, not hitting. Nobody spars in a first class, and you decide when you are ready.
What gear do I need and when?
Nothing for your first class. After that you'll want hand wraps, then gloves and shin guards. We sell them at the front desk and lend ours until you choose.
How does tuition work?
It depends on who is training and how many classes a week. The figures are on our enrollment page and at your first class. Read how it works on the membership page.
What is the term, and how do I cancel?
Memberships are month to month. To cancel, write to us with 30 days' notice; the month in progress is billed. Ask us about pausing for a change of shifts.
What happens if I miss a class?
Come to another class at your level the same week. The week grid has early, midday and late classes on most days.
Still have a question?
Call, write or come to a class.
